| Mellon is approximately 6 miles
from the A30 and in complete contrast to the moor the
dramatic North coast with sandy, surfing beaches and
breathtaking coastal walks, is 9 miles. The popular
fishing villages of Padstow, Boscastle and Port Isaac
and the quest for King Arthur at Tintagel are within
a short drive. The nearest beaches are at Trebarwith
and Polzeath. |
| Walking |
| Our location is excellent, with
direct level access to the open moor. There are meadow
footpaths from the cottage door that join moorland walks
to the upper wooded valley of the River Camel, across
the moor to climb Brown Willy (Cornwall's highest point)
or Row Tor (National Trust) with splendid views. This
area has much archaeological interest. Many remains
of prehistoric man can be explored within walking distance
- King Arthur's Hall, stone circles and Middle Moor
Cross are just a few. |
| Cycling |
| The Cornish Way (National Cycle
Route 3) passes the farm, south to join the Camel Trail
(4 miles) or north to Bude via Camelford. The Camel
Trail - An 18 mile traffic free recreational route along
the beautiful River Camel valley, commencing at Poley's
bridge, Bodmin Moor (4 miles) via Bodmin and Wadebridge
to the Atlantic Sea at Padstow. Cycle hire can be arranged
locally or at Wadebridge. |

Blisland - 4 miles. Pretty village with Good
Pub (vast assortment of real ales)
- Camelford - Small town with banks, leisure
centre with swimming pool.
- Wadebridge - 10 miles. Situated midway
between Padstow and Bodmin. The Camel Trail can
be joined here with cycle hire. Leisure centre with
swimming pool, cinema.
- Bodmin - 10 miles. Shire Hall visitor centre.
Leisure centre with excellent swimming pool.
- Tintagel - The castle, the reputed home
of King Arthur. National Trust - Post Office.
- Padstow - Attractive fishing port made
famous by the TV chef Rick Stein.
- Port Isaac - Attractive fishing port –
home to tv series ‘Doc Martin’ Breath taking coastal
walks.
